La Belle Époque

from $250.00

La Belle Époque. Still Life 2025.

La Belle Époque is a study of Flemish Antique poppies and old fashioned roses. Steeped in history and quiet opulence, the poppies, heavy headed with layers of tissue like petals, trace their lineage back to the gardens and still life paintings of 16th and 17th-century Flanders. Cherished for their extravagant, peony-like blooms, they appeared often in Flemish and Dutch Master paintings as symbols of beauty, abundance and impermanence, a reminder of life’s exquisite fragility.

Paired with roses, timeless emblems of love and devotion, the composition becomes a conversation between passion and transience. Each stem leans and sighs under is own weight, allowed to exist exacly as it is, uncorrected and honest.

The flowers are gathered in a vase reminiscent of Marie Antoinette's world, ornamental, refined, and unapologetically romantic, echoing an era where beauty, art, and excess intertwined.

Together, these elements form La Belle Epoque: a reverie of past grandeur; suspended briefly in a vase of blooms.

Inspired by the Dutch Masters floral paintings but reimagined through a contemporary lens.

Arranged and Photographed by Laura.

These are photographed using natural light with real flowers from our garden. It’s important to note that I do not use AI in the making of these images, I want to show them as they really are.

Your artwork will be printed on premium Fine Art Etching Cotton Rag 330gsm matte paper, this is museum quality for highest age resistance. It will be rolled in a tube and shipped directly to you from the printers and include a signed certificate of authentication. Please ask your framer to attach this to the back of the frame. All prints come unframed with a 10mm white handling border. It has a delicate surface so we recommend extra care when handling. As much as I understand the desire to open your parcel as soon as you have received it, I strongly advise not opening the tube but give directly to your framer to handle, they will use special gloves to avoid finger prints and be working in a space that protects the paper. Your artwork is an investment and very precious so I recommend asking your framer to use a protective non-reflective artglass with a UV filter, this will greatly reduce any potential fading. I recommend either UV70 or museum glass.
