Remains of the day

Remains of the day. Still Life Spring 2024.

Poppies ‘Colibri’ the sought after Italian bred poppy. Long stems picked from the garden and placed in the little blue jug, I walked away and waited, not to capture their peak but to observe their quiet collapse, the slow folding inward, the tender unravelling. Petals softened into semi translucent silk skirts, curling like aged parchment. The apricot hues fading to bruised faded rusts and pinks that remind me of old crumbling buildings in Italy. This image is not about the bloom but the after. A still life shaped by time, where memory, impermanence and the dignity of fading are held in quiet balance. A meditation of what remains. The remains of the day.

Inspired by the Dutch Masters floral paintings but reimagined through a contemporary lens.

The Print and the Paper

Printing: Giclée Archival Inkjet Print

Paper: Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 gsm Etching Finish

Hahnemühle Photo Rag is one of the world’s most popular papers and the valued all-rounder for high-quality FineArt inkjet printing. The white cotton artist’s paper, with its characteristic, wonderfully soft feel, boasts a lightly defined felt structure, lending each artwork a three-dimensional appearance and impressive pictorial depth. Combined with the matt premium inkjet coating, this paper produces outstanding prints that feature brilliant colours, deep blacks, striking contrasts and perfect reproduction of detail. This acid- and lignin-free classic meets the most exacting requirements for age resistance and is specially designed for FineArt applications., this is museum quality for highest age resistance. It will be rolled in a tube and shipped directly to you from the printers and include a signed certificate of authentication. Please ask your framer to attach this to the back of the frame. All prints come unframed with a 10mm white handling border. It has a delicate surface so we recommend extra care when handling. As much as I understand the desire to open your parcel as soon as you have received it, I strongly advise not opening the tube but give directly to your framer to handle, they will use special gloves to avoid finger prints and be working in a space that protects the paper. Your artwork is an investment and very precious so I recommend asking your framer to use a protective non-reflective artglass with a UV filter, this will greatly reduce any potential fading. I recommend either UV70 or museum glass.
